We cut these loose across the seat and wide through the leg. The linen blend cloth has an open weave that softens with wear and lets air through. Broad vertical stripes in black and khaki run straight from the gathered waistband down to the wide hem.

• Leg shape and volume. We cut the legs generous and wide from the hip down, borrowing the ease of a harem cut without closing at the ankle. The fabric falls straight, pooling slightly over shoes without clinging to the calf.
• Waistband and cord. The elastic band gathers the linen cloth evenly around the waist. A flat self-fabric drawstring threads through the front casing so you can adjust the tension and sit the pants high or lower on the hip.
• Dropped side pockets. We set two deep pockets low into the side seams. They sit below the waistband gathering so they do not bunch, giving hands a place to rest without pulling the striped panels out of line.
• Washing and linen care. Wash in cool or lukewarm water on a gentle cycle, or wash by hand. Hang the pants up to dry away from high heat, and use a warm steam iron to relax the natural creases in the weave.
