We cut these barrel pants from a medium-weight corduroy that holds warmth as the weather cools. The high rise sits on a wide elastic band with an adjustable drawstring, while the legs bow out slightly through the thigh and taper toward the hem. Dark Coffee brings out the texture of the vertical wales.

• Barrel leg shape. The cut curves outward from the hip down through the knee, then draws back in slightly near the ankle. This gives the heavy corduroy room to move without pooling over your shoes.
• Waistband and drawstring. We set the high waist on a gathered elastic channel and threaded it with a matching cord. You pull it to your preferred tension, so the waist stays put without binding.
• Front pocket depth. Two patch pockets sit flat against the front hips. We stitched them deep enough to hold keys or a phone without pulling the waistband down or altering the line of the leg.
• Corduroy wash care. Wash on a cold cycle or by hand to keep the ribbed wales soft and intact. Lay the trousers flat in the shade to dry, and avoid chlorine bleach to protect the Dark Coffee dye.
