We cut these with a generous rise and wide legs that round slightly through the calf. The linen blend is light, woven in an open yellow-and-white gingham check that vents warm air easily. An elastic waistband with an exterior tie keeps the fit easy across the hips.

• Drawstring elastic waistband. We gathered the top block on a wide elastic band and threaded a matching drawcord through the front. It sits flat across the waist and stays put without pinching.
