We cut these hot-weather shorts with a high rise and a gathered, smocked band that sits flat against the waist. The lightweight weave moves air freely. The navy-and-white check keeps the cut casual and easy to pair with simple tops.

  • Shirred elastic waist. A wide band of elastic smocking holds the high rise without digging into the waist. It pulls straight on and adjusts naturally as you move.
  • Navy gingham weave. The navy and white check is woven into a light, soft blend that softens with wear. It drapes loosely off the hips and vents heat on warm days.
  • Loose leg openings. We cut the legs wide through the thigh so fabric does not cling when walking. The straight hem falls cleanly with plenty of room through the seat.
  • Care and wash. Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle to preserve the weave and check pattern. Tumble dry on low heat or hang on a line to dry.
