A wide leg opening gives these shorts plenty of room through the thigh. We cut the waist high with elastic smocking that gathers soft fabric without digging in. The light purple and white gingham is woven in a lightweight blend that lets air move freely on hot afternoons.

• Smocked high waistband. Wide rows of elastic shirring sit flat against the waist. The smocking expands easily as you move, holding the rise in place without the need for drawstrings or hardware.
