A rounded barrel leg gives these cold-weather pants their shape. We set ribbed corduroy on a wide elastic waistband with an adjustable cord so the rise sits comfortably without binding. The fabric holds warmth while staying soft against the skin, falling into deep pockets and clean hems.

• Bowed barrel leg. The leg curves out from the hip before tapering slightly back in toward the ankle. This shape keeps the bulk away from the knees while preserving a loose, roomy drape through the calf.
• Elastic drawstring waistband. We gathered the top edge over a wide elastic band and threaded a tonal drawstring through the channel. You can tighten or loosen the waist without distorting the line of the hips.
