We cut these trousers from soft corduroy that traps warmth while letting air move through the ribs. The barrel leg curves out past the knee and tapers gently toward the ankle, keeping the volume easy to manage. An elastic waistband with a matching drawstring lets you set the rise where you want it.

• Corduroy rib fabric. The ridged pile holds warmth through cool mornings. It is soft to the touch, with a gentle drape that gives the barrel leg its rounded structure without feeling stiff.
• Barrel leg shape. The cut widens through the thigh, reaches its fullest point mid-calf, and settles in slightly at the hem. It gives your legs room to move without dragging on the ground.
• Drawstring waist. We gathered the top onto a wide elastic band and ran a drawstring through the channel. You can cinch it tight at your natural waist or wear it lower on the hips.
