We cut these trousers wide through the hip and leg so the corduroy can hang straight without clinging. The dark brown wale holds heat and softens with wash and wear. An elastic waistband with a matching drawstring lets you set the rise where you want it.

• Corduroy ribs and weight. The fabric has a distinct vertical wale that catches light across the brown dye. It carries enough weight to hold a straight line from the hip down, blocking drafts through the cooler months.
• Elastic waist and cord. We gathered the top over a wide elastic band and threaded a flat drawstring through the casing. You pull it tight or leave it loose, so the waistband sits flat without pinching when you sit.
• Straight wide leg cut. The cut runs parallel from the upper thigh down to the open hem. That extra volume keeps the heavy ribs away from your knees, leaving plenty of room to walk without bunching.
• Washing and care. Machine wash cold inside out to protect the texture of the ribs. Hang them flat to dry, or tumble low, so the dark brown pile stays soft and does not crush.
