We cut these trousers from ribbed corduroy with plenty of room through the hips and thighs. The high waistband pairs an elastic core with an adjustable tie so the pants stay put without pinching. The leg falls wide and straight right to the hem. In warm brown, the pile catches the light along each ridge.

• Elastic drawstring waistband. We set a broad elastic band into the high waist and ran a matching cord through the channel. You tie it where you sit. The band anchors high without biting into your middle.
• Straight wide leg. The cut drops straight from the hip down through the opening. That extra space keeps the heavy corduroy from bunching behind the knee, letting the fabric swing clean as you walk.
• Ribbed brown corduroy. The cloth has a soft, raised wale that holds warmth when the weather turns cool. The brown dye settles deep into the valleys of the ribs, giving the fabric a solid, grounded tone.
