We cut this pair wide through the thigh and seat, blending a palazzo flare with a slight harem drop at the crotch. The black and blue stripe runs vertically down the leg to work with the natural drop of the fabric. An elastic band with a flat tie sets the rise where you want it.

• Leg and rise volume. A generous cut through the hips falls straight down into an open hem. The lowered crotch gives the leg room to move without pulling at the inner thigh.
