A wide palazzo leg gives this pair its room, running straight down from a gathered hip. We cut them in a lightweight linen blend printed with small off-white dots over black. The waist sits flat with soft smocking and ties with a self drawstring. Side ruffle details trace the outer seams to break up the long line.

• Smocked waist and tie. The wide elastic band gathers closely without binding. We ran rows of fine stitching through it so the casing stays flat, then added an adjustable drawstring cut from the same dot fabric to set the rise where you want it.
• Palazzo cut with ruffle. The leg falls straight from the upper hip to an open hem. Along each outer side seam, a narrow fabric ruffle runs down the length to add movement as you walk while keeping the inner leg clean.
• Side slant pockets. Two deep pockets sit along the forward side seams, anchored into the waistband so they stay upright. They lie flat under the gathers and hold a phone without pulling the light linen blend out of shape.
• Wash and air dry. Wash on a gentle cycle in cool water or hand wash without bleach. Line dry in the shade to preserve the crisp dot print and keep the linen blend soft. Smooth with a warm steam iron if needed.
