We cut these sweatpants from a soft cotton-blend fleece that holds warmth without feeling heavy. The barrel leg bows out through the calf before tapering in at the cropped ankle hem. Along each outer side seam, we set a strip of lace against the gray-pink knit.

• Barrel leg shape. The pattern curves out past the knee and draws back in toward the cropped hem. It leaves ample room through the leg so the fleece hangs clear of your skin instead of clinging.
• Lace side trim. We stitched a panel of open lace along each outer leg seam from waist to hem. It sits flat against the cotton blend and adds texture to the gray-pink wash.
• Elastic drawstring waistband. The wide waistband holds an elastic core reinforced with a working drawcord. You can tie it higher or let it settle lower on the hips without the fleece bunching.
• Deep side pockets. Two inset side pockets are sewn into the forward seams. They run deep enough for your hands or a phone and stay flat beneath the lace trim.
