We cut these corduroy pants with a bowed barrel leg that holds its shape away from the calf. The light khaki ribbed cloth carries enough weight for cooler days, set off by checked contrast panels pieced across the knees. A wide elastic band and woven drawstring keep the high waist settled.

• Bowed barrel leg. The cut widens through the thigh, curves outward past the knee, and tapers slightly before the hem. It leaves ample room through the leg without pooling around your shoes.
• Checked knee panels. We pieced plaid fabric directly across the front knee line. The patchwork breaks up the solid corduroy ribs and gives the curved leg extra structure through the lower half.
• Elastic drawstring waist. The high rise sits on a gathered elastic waistband fitted with a flat front drawstring. You can pull the cord tight or let the band stretch when you sit.
