We cut this pair with extra volume through the thigh to let the linen hang straight down like a split skirt. The waistband combines a gathered casing with an exterior tie cord so the rise stays put. Front pleating sets the fold lines right below the waist, while deep side pockets sit flat in the side seams.

• Pleated palazzo leg. The leg runs wide from the hip down to a broad hem. Front pleats direct the extra cloth into long vertical folds, so the trouser reads like a skirt when you stand still but splits cleanly when you step.
• Gathered drawstring waist. We built the waistband with a wide internal elastic band that holds its height without rolling. The matching cloth drawstring threads through the front casing to let you cinch the fit higher or lower on your hips.
