A dropped rise gives these black pants room across the hips before the legs swell into a lantern shape. We sew panel seams down each side to hold the curve off the shin. The waist pulls on with a gathered elastic band that sits flat against the lower back.

• Dropped crotch lantern cut. Room gathers low through the seat, bows outward around the mid-calf, and tucks back toward the ankle. Panel seams guide the drape so the fabric holds its lantern shape while you walk.
• Gathered elastic waistband. An all-around elastic waist pulls straight up without fasteners or ties. It stays put at your natural waist or lower on the hips, stretching as you bend and sitting flat under loose tops.
• Linen blend weave. The black linen blend has an open weave that vents heat in warm weather. It carries a visible slub texture, softens with each wash, and falls in loose folds rather than holding stiff creases.
