We cut these wide-leg palazzo pants from a lightweight linen blend in classic black-and-white gingham. The elastic waistband pulls straight on and sits high, letting the legs fall broad and loose. At the bottom, a strip of white lace trims each hem to finish the edge.

• Elastic waist and rise. The continuous elastic waistband pulls on without buttons or zips. It sits high on the waist, anchoring the cut so the fabric hangs straight down through the hips without pulling.
• Palazzo leg and lace hem. We gave the legs a wide palazzo cut with plenty of room through the thigh and calf. Each hem is finished with a band of white lace that adds weight to the bottom edge.
• Linen-blend weave. The lightweight linen blend keeps an open weave that vents heat in warm weather. It softens as you wash it and retains its natural texture without feeling stiff against the skin.
