We cut these everyday winter trousers from soft, ribbed corduroy in a deep navy shade. Plaid patchwork panels run down the outer legs to break up the wales, while the barrel cut bows out through the knee before tapering toward the ankle. An elastic waistband with a front drawstring anchors the high rise.

• Bowed barrel leg. The leg shape swells through the calf and thigh, giving you room to move without pooling around your shoes. A subtle taper at the bottom hem keeps the volume tidy over boots or flat sneakers.
