We cut these from medium-wale corduroy that holds heat when the air turns sharp. The leg bows out wide through the knee before tapering back at the ankle. Large plaid pockets sit flat along the outer seam, secured with metal rivets at the stress points.

• Barrel leg cut. The profile curves outward along the side seams to give room through the thigh and calf. A subtle taper at the bottom hem keeps the volume off the ground without feeling narrow.
• Pull on waist. We built the top with a wide elastic band and an adjustable woven drawstring. It sits level on the hips without biting, letting the corduroy fall freely down the legs.
• Plaid utility pockets. Contrasting plaid fabric forms two oversized side pockets. We anchored the upper corners with small rivets so the patch stays flat even when carrying heavier essentials.
• Washing the ribs. Wash cold on a gentle cycle to keep the corduroy pile soft and the blue tone even. Line dry to protect the pocket patches and preserve the barrel shape.
