We cut this barrel pant from a midweight corduroy that holds its shape without feeling stiff. The waist gathers on an elastic band with a cord you can cinch, while the leg bows out gently through the thigh and tapers toward the ankle. Dark Coffee gives the ribbed wales a solid, grounded tone for cold weather.

• Barrel leg cut. The pattern arcs out wide through the calf and thigh before drawing back in at the hem. That curve keeps the extra room away from your boots while letting the heavy ribs of the corduroy break naturally.
• Elastic waist and tie. We gathered the top over a wide band of interior elastic and threaded a matching cord through the center. It sits where you pull it, high or low, without pinching across the hips.
