We cut these wide-leg culottes with a high rise and a cropped hem that clears the ankle. The knit fabric has give and hangs straight down from the hip rather than clinging. An adjustable drawstring anchors the gathered waistband. Dyed in solid black.

Gathered drawstring waistband. We set a wide elastic band at the high waist and ran a flat cord through the casing. You tie it where it sits best on your hips. It stays flat under tops without digging.
Wide cropped leg. The leg opens up right below the hip and falls straight to a mid-calf hem. That wide opening lets air move around the calf and keeps the fabric away from the knee.
Deep side pockets. Two slanted pockets sit along the side seams. We stitched the pocket bags deep enough to hold keys or a phone without pulling the waistband down on one side.
Care for black knit. Machine wash cold with like darks to keep the deep black tone from dulling. Line dry or tumble low. The knit resists hard creases, so you can pull them straight from the line.
