We cut these pants with volume through the thigh that bows outward and settles back slightly above the ankle. The linen blend keeps the weave open and light for warm days. A drawstring waist lets you set the rise where you want it to sit.

• Barrel leg shape. The pattern bows wide through the mid-leg before tapering toward the ankle hem. That extra room lets air move through the trousers while keeping the lower cuff clear of your shoes.
• Adjustable drawstring waist. An enclosed elastic band holds the top, backed by an exposed tie cord. You can cinch it high on the waist or drop it lower across the hips without binding.
• Green gingham weave. We chose a green and white plaid that breaks up plain solid tops. The linen-blend yarn gives the check pattern a soft, washed surface that relaxes further after laundering.
