We cut these shorts with a deep smocked band that sits high and flat against the waist. The lightweight weave blends linen character with a soft drape that vents heat on hot afternoons. Two side pockets sit along the seam without pulling open.

• Smocked high waistband. Multiple rows of soft elastic create a broad band that gathers the fabric without digging in. It pulls on easily and stays put above the hips while you walk or sit.
• Loose leg cut. The legs fall wide from the gathers at the waist. Air moves through the openings, and the fabric stays well clear of the thighs for a relaxed hang.
• Brown white plaid. We chose a classic check in soft brown and muted white. The pattern is woven through the lightweight fabric so both sides keep their colour through frequent washings.
