We cut these harem trousers from a soft ribbed corduroy printed with a clear black and white dot. The silhouette gathers heavy volume through the hips and drops the crotch low before curving back toward the ankle. It gives you room to move without tight seams binding across the thighs.

• Gathered waistband. The wide elastic band sits flat against the waist with close gathers that adjust easily without a drawstring. It pulls on quickly and keeps the heavy drape of the corduroy anchored where you set it.
• Dropped barrel leg. We built this pair with an exaggerated dropped rise and wide, curved outer seams that balloon through the mid-leg. Small side slits at the lower hem give the cuffs extra give over low shoes.
• Deep side pockets. Two open pockets sit directly in the side seams below the gathers. They run deep enough to take a phone or a key ring without pulling the outer shape out of line.
