We cut these palazzo trousers with an open leg that carries its width all the way to the ankle. An inset band of lace sits above a gathered ruffle hem, giving the bottom edge extra weight so the linen swings as you walk. The high rise pulls on with an elastic waist and a tassel cord.

• Lace and ruffle hem. A band of open lace runs around each lower leg, joined to a gathered ruffle cuff. That layered construction adds weight to the bottom of the wide cut, helping the lightweight linen hang straight instead of clinging.
