We cut these loose trousers with a wide smocked waistband and a dropped harem seat. The fabric is an airy linen printed with small yellow mums across a pale ground. Volume builds through the thighs before gathering down to a crisscross overlap at the ankles, keeping the hems clear of shoes. Two deep side pockets anchor the front.

• Smocked high waist. The wide smocked band sits high on the waist and gathers the fabric without rigid hardware. It stretches easily and stays put through the day without cutting in.
• Crisscross ankle hem. We brought the leg volume back in at the bottom with an overlapping crisscross hem. The cuff tapers around the ankle so the loose linen does not drag on the ground.
• Small mum print. A scatter of small yellow chrysanthemum blossoms covers the pale linen weave. The pattern masks the small creases that naturally appear as linen softens and moves with wear.
• Care and washing. Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle or by hand to preserve the floral print. Do not wring or twist the wet cloth; hang the pants to dry naturally in the shade.
