We cut this button-down with plenty of room through the chest and back so the linen hangs clear of the body. The waterblue stripe runs vertical, finished with a classic fold-down collar and gathered cuffs. It works untucked over shorts or buttoned straight over wide trousers.

• Smocked cuff detail. The sleeves end in wide smocked cuffs with light elastic threads running through. You can push them up your forearm to stay put or let them sit softly at the wrist without buttoning.
• Linen blend weave. We weave linen with soft fibres to give the shirt a relaxed drape that vents heat well. The fabric softens with each wash and develops a light natural texture without feeling stiff.
• Chest pocket and placket. A single patch pocket sits on the left chest, breaking the fine vertical blue stripes. The front placket uses clean buttons spaced so the neck can sit open or fasten flat beneath the collar.
• Care and washing. Wash on a gentle cycle or by hand in cool water without bleach. Hang it on a line to dry rather than using heat, then steam out hard creases while the fabric is slightly damp.
