These pants bow out through the thigh and calf, then pull back in right at the ankle. We cut them from a lightweight linen blend dyed a deep rust red, finished with an elastic waistband and a working drawcord. The room stays through the leg so air moves freely.

• Bowed barrel leg. The pattern curves outward below the hip and draws in toward the hem. This keeps the volume off the shoe while leaving plenty of space through the knee and shin.
• Elastic and drawstring waist. We gathered the top block on a wide elastic band and threaded a matching cord through the channel. You pull it tight or let it rest low without the waistband rolling over.
• Side slant pockets. Two pockets sit along the forward side seams, cut deep enough for a phone or keys. The openings lie flat against the linen weave when your hands are out.
• Linen blend care. This lightweight weave softens each time it sees water. Wash on a gentle cycle or by hand in cool water, shake the seams straight, and hang to dry out of direct sun.
