We cut these palazzo pants with a high rise and an open leg that falls straight from the hip. The woven water blue gingham blends linen for an airy hang, while inset lace edges the wide hem. Side pockets sit flat along the seam.

• Elastic waist and rise. The waistband uses a continuous elastic band that sits high on the natural waist. It gathers the light gingham cloth evenly, holding without a drawstring and staying flat when you sit.
• Wide palazzo leg. Volume starts right at the hip and carries through the open leg. The linen blend drapes straight down rather than ballooning out, which lets air move freely through the cut as you walk.
