We cut these cold-weather pants with a horseshoe leg that bows out at the thigh and tapers toward the ankle. The navy corduroy has a soft, raised wale that holds warmth while keeping its shape. A simple elastic waist with a drawstring anchors the high rise.

• Barrel leg shape. The pattern arcs out through the mid-leg and draws back in at the hem. This gives you plenty of room to move without fabric dragging on the ground.
• Knee patch detail. Horizontal seamlines across the knees anchor the patchwork construction. They break up the vertical lines of the corduroy wales and add structure to the bowed leg.
• Pull-on waistband. An elastic band sits high on the waist, secured with an adjustable fabric drawstring. It stays flat against the waist and adjusts without hard hardware.
• Deep side pockets. Two inset pockets sit along the side seams for daily essentials. We set them deep enough that items do not slide out when you sit down.
