We cut these sweatpants from a dense, brushed fleece that holds a curved barrel leg without collapsing. The athletic side stripes run down the outer seam to anchor the shape. A drawstring waist keeps the rise right where you place it.

• Barrel leg shape. The pattern bows out across the calf and pulls back in toward the bottom hem. That extra room through the leg keeps the fleece from clinging or stacking up awkwardly around your ankles.
• Ribbed drawstring waist. An elastic waistband sits high on the natural waist and tightens with a matching flat cord. It holds the weight of the heavy fleece securely without cutting into your middle when you sit.
• Deep side pockets. We set two deep slash pockets into the forward side seams. They sit flat against the hip and carry a phone or keys without dragging the waistband down or pulling the stripe out of line.
