We cut these trousers wide through the thigh and straight down to the shoe. The ribbed corduroy holds enough structure to keep the leg shape intact while trapping warmth through cooler months. If you want a closer line, take one size down from your usual choice.

• Elastic drawstring waist. The waistband gathers on a broad elastic core and adjusts with a flat cord. It rests flat across the front and gives freely when you sit, so there is no binding around the middle.
• Straight wide leg. We gave the leg extra room from the hip down through the knee, running straight to a clean hem. The volume hangs loose around heavy shoes without bunching.
