We cut these wide-leg trousers from a linen blend woven in a classic blue and white gingham check. The high rise sits on an elastic band with an exterior drawstring for an exact hold. Wide legs fall straight down to gathered ruffle hems that clear the ankle.

Elastic drawstring waistband. We run a broad elastic channel through the top edge and thread a matching cord through the front. The band holds flat around the waist without digging, and the ties let you adjust the tension as needed.
Gingham linen weave. The blue and white plaid is woven into the cloth rather than printed on top. The linen-blend yarn allows air to pass through freely, softening through repeated wear and washing while holding its boxy check pattern.
Wide leg with ruffle hem. The legs drop wide and straight from the hip, keeping fabric away from your knees. We finish each cuff with a gathered ruffle band that weights the hem and adds volume right at the lower leg.
Cold wash and hang dry. Wash by hand or on a gentle machine cycle below warm temperatures. Do not bleach or tumble dry. Hang the trousers on a line to dry and press with a steam iron to reset the gathered hem.
