We cut these barrel pants from a soft, ridged corduroy that holds warmth for cooler days. The high rise gathers on an elastic drawstring waist, while the leg bows outward through the knee and calf before pulling back in at the ankle. The emerald wash shows the texture of every cord.

• Barrel leg cut. The curve starts below the hip, widens through the calf, and tapers neat at the ankle hem. That bowed shape gives you room to move without dragging on the floor.
• Drawstring high waistband. We built the waistband with a broad elastic band and an adjustable cord. It sits high on the waist so the pants stay put without cutting into your middle when you sit.
• Soft ribbed corduroy. The cloth is a lightweight corduroy with fine vertical ribs. It holds its shape through the wide leg while staying supple enough to drape rather than stand stiff.
• Cold water wash. Wash inside out on a gentle cold cycle to protect the pile of the cord. Line dry or tumble low, then shake out the ribs before folding.
