A broad palazzo cut gives these trousers plenty of room through the thigh and hem. We gathered the high waist with elastic smocking and a working drawstring, then dyed the linen blend in a muted lake blue. Small self-fabric ruffles finish the edge of each side pocket.

• Smocked drawstring waist. Wide bands of elastic stitching gather the waistband so it sits flat without binding. We added an exterior drawstring through the front so you can adjust the tension directly against your waist.
• Palazzo leg shape. The pattern drops straight from the hip into an open, generous hem. Because the leg carries its width all the way down, the lightweight linen blend catches the air and moves freely as you walk.
• Ruffle side pockets. Deep side pockets sit along the forward seam to hold small items securely. A narrow ruffle cut from matching linen frames each opening, softening the utility of the side seam without adding bulk.
• Linen care. Wash by hand or on a gentle machine cycle in cool water. Hang the trousers to dry rather than using a heated dryer, and smooth out the folds with a warm steam iron while the cloth is damp.
