We built these knit trousers around a crossover elastic waistband that sits high and lies flat without binding. The straight, wide leg falls freely from the hip to a curved split hem, giving you room to move on the mat or around the house. Two deep side pockets hold daily items without pulling the waist down.

• Cross-over high waistband. The front panel overlaps in a low V that stays put without digging into the waist. We ran wide elastic through the top edge so the band lies flat against the torso and keeps its position through deep bends.
• Curved split hem. Each lower leg opens with a curved side vent along the outer seam. The split breaks the hemline over your shoes and allows the fabric to spill outward when you walk or stretch rather than bunching at the ankle.
• Knit fabric weight. We chose a soft, medium-weight heather dark gray jersey with generous stretch. The yarn has enough body to hang straight without clinging to the skin, keeping an opaque finish while moving freely through cool weather.
• Deep side pockets. The side pockets sit along the outer hip seams, cut deep enough to keep small belongings secure. We anchored the pocket bags to the interior so they do not twist or add bulk across the front.
