We cut these trousers from midweight ribbed corduroy to hold warmth through cold weather. The shape balloons through the calf before tapering back in toward the ankle. Plaid utility pockets break up the solid black base, anchored at the corners with small metal rivets.

• Barrel leg shape. The pattern bows wide through the outer thigh and knee, then pulls inward at the lower hem. This curved seam structure keeps the volume away from your shoes without dragging on wet ground.
• Plaid patch pockets. We set deep front pockets cut from contrast plaid fabric across the hip. Metal rivets secure the stress points at each corner so the openings hold their shape when loaded with keys or a phone.
• Elastic drawstring waistband. A wide elastic band sits flat against the waist and adjusts with an exposed pull cord. The casing gathers lightly around the hips, giving you room to sit without the fabric binding or pulling.
