A curved barrel leg gives these trousers room through the thigh before tapering slightly at the cropped ankle. We cut them from a midweight corduroy in deep jujube red that holds its rounded shape without feeling stiff. The high elastic waistband pulls on easily and stays put throughout the day.

• Barrel leg shape. The legs bow out through the knee and come in slightly at the cropped hem. Structured seams define the rounded line while leaving plenty of room to move.
• Elastic high waistband. We built the waistband with a wide elastic core and a clean button closure at the front. It pulls on without bunching and sits high on the waist.
• Deep patch pockets. Oversized patch pockets sit flat on the front hips. They are stitched down to carry daily items without pulling the corduroy out of shape.
• Corduroy care. Machine wash cold or hand wash to keep the pile soft, and dry flat in the shade. Avoid bleach so the deep jujube red tone stays true over time.
