We cut these sweatpants wide through the outer thigh and tuck the volume back in at the ankle to build a true barrel leg. The medium-weight fleece holds its rounded shape without collapsing. A drawcord elastic waist keeps the rise right where you place it.

• Barrel leg shape. The outer seam curves wide past the knee before tapering in toward the shoe. This keeps the fleece away from the shins while leaving plenty of room through the seat and thighs.
• Waistband and drawcord. We use a broad elastic band threaded with an adjustable cord. It sits flat against the hips and anchors the heavier sweatshirt fabric so the waistband stays level as you move.
• Striped cuff hem. A contrast stripe runs around the lower hem to set off the dark coffee colour. The hem sits loose around the sneaker without pulling tight at the ankle bone.
• Fleece care. Wash in cold water with like colours to protect the brown dye. Tumble dry on low heat or hang on a line to preserve the plush interior and outer knit shape.
