We cut these culottes wide through the calf so the linen-blend cloth hangs like a loose skirt. The waistband sits high with an elastic casing and an adjustable cord. Along the lower edge, a band of contrast lace weights the hem and keeps the leg opening flat in warm air. Two deep side pockets sit into the seams.

• Wide cropped leg. The leg cuts broad from the hip down to the mid-calf. That extra width lets the linen blend swing away from the skin, venting heat while you walk and keeping the line relaxed.
• Contrast lace hem. We finished each leg opening with a band of contrast lace stitching. The trim adds weight to the bottom edge, helping the wide cut hold its shape instead of bunching up around the knee.
